Journalism ??? (update)

Today the Metro newspaper printed an apology on their letters page in relation to the insensitive and insulting article they printed on Friday.

They apologised for printing the wrong picture next to the article and for any upset this may have caused to the subject, his family and friends. This is a good thing.

However, they chose not to apologise for the insensitive and insulting headline they gave to the article, nor for repeating the derogatory term used in that headline a further 2 times in the body of the article. This is a very bad thing.

I am reliably informed that the piece was transcribed by a PA directly from court reports. So it was not even written by a proper journalist. You could probably say that about the majority of the content of the Metro...
